Frequently Asked Questions
How does Norse Guard block ads?
Norse Guard uses DNS-based filtering to block ads and trackers. When you visit a website or use an app, it makes DNS requests to resolve domain names. Norse Guard intercepts these requests and blocks those matching known ad and tracker domains, preventing them from ever loading.
Why does Norse Guard need VPN permission?
iOS requires VPN permission to enable DNS filtering. Norse Guard doesn't route your internet traffic through a VPN server — it only filters DNS requests locally on your device. This is why it's lightweight and doesn't affect your connection speed or battery life.
Will this block YouTube or Spotify ads?
Unfortunately, no. YouTube and Spotify serve ads from the same domains as their content, making DNS-level blocking ineffective. However, Norse Guard blocks most website banner ads, pop-ups, and tracking across the web and in other apps.
Can I whitelist specific websites?
Yes! Go to Settings > Whitelist in the app. You can add domains that you want to exempt from blocking. This is useful if a website isn't working correctly with ad blocking enabled.
What's the difference between Free and Pro?
Free: Basic ad blocking with 2 filter lists, standard DNS providers, and basic statistics.
Pro: All filter lists (including regional), premium DNS providers, custom blocking rules, detailed DNS activity logs, priority support, and regional blocklists.
Pro: All filter lists (including regional), premium DNS providers, custom blocking rules, detailed DNS activity logs, priority support, and regional blocklists.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through Apple. Go to Settings > Your Name > Subscriptions on your iPhone, find Norse Guard, and tap "Cancel Subscription." You'll retain Pro access until the end of your billing period.
Does Norse Guard work with VPNs?
iOS only allows one VPN configuration at a time. If you use another VPN (like Norse VPN), you should disable Norse Guard and use your VPN's built-in ad blocking instead. Norse VPN includes DNS-level ad blocking as part of its service.
Is my browsing data logged?
No. Norse Guard processes DNS requests locally on your device. We never see, log, or store your browsing activity. Your privacy is our priority — read our Privacy Policy for details.
